With effect from 6th April 2010, online filing of annual PAYE Returns will be mandatory even for the smallest employers. That will be extended from 6th April 2011 to the submission of in-year forms such as P45's. In effect, the operation of manual payroll will no longer be practicable. It is important to note that you will not be permitted to submit your annual PAYE Returns for the year to 5th April 2010 on paper - they must be filed online despite that you may have maintained your payroll manually during the year to that date.
